Bird in a cage
Jewel in a vault
Children in four walls

Is this what we do
Cage our most precious
Keep out of harms way?

Wings lose span width
Jewels lose luster
Children lose vivacity

What more have we trapped
What else have we subdued
Do we even know!

Gripped by convention
Cuddled by mediocrity
Fooled by routines and rituals

Do you hear your heart beat
Can you feel your spirit soar
Have you explored the caverns of your being?

Cut the ties with judgement
Break free of inevitable regret
Explore what you can dream of

No skydiving necessary
No heroics mandated
Just desire a sincere fulfillment

Despite the climate
Regardless of obligations
Hold fast to your blessing

Breathe light the life
Leave struggle to the unwilling
And find yourself in all that runs free
