Checking in….

What if you gave yourself

A moment each day

Perhaps at the start

Probably more needed at the end

Just to check in on yourself

Saying, “how are you feeling today?”

“How did your day go?”

If it was tough

Can you give yourself a moment

To relax, breathe deep, breathe long

And let it out slow.

Whatever you felt

Can you accept, allow

Reflect as needed

The let it all go.

Open yourself

Much like the sky

And watch the happenings

The events, the emotions

As they float on by

Slow like summer clouds

Or fast like birds as thunder rolls in.

Then as the space empties, quietens

And a silence sings

Bask, like bathing in the sun

Let a warmth surround

Let a comfort embrace

This is presence

And this is how you get all checked in.

Dignity

181587E2-54C3-4A40-8AA8-E49F3C223E0C
Dignity, driven to be attained by stature,
Letters behind the name
Certificates on the wall
Climbing the corporate ladder.

For some,
Dignity is synonymous with pride.
Endorsed by accolades and ‘likes’
Possessions and privileges.

Does more of anything
Really equate to dignity?

Perhaps to stand in front of a mirror
And look yourself in the eye.
Who is this person?
When stripped of titles, material possessions,
Even the relations of family-hood.

Dignity, is perhaps not a quality
But a by-product,
When one is able to have a sense of
Self worth and respect.

Should dignity not belong to all?
Despite circumstances of wealth
Identity of race, religion or sexual orientation.

How did we lose sight
Of our commonality?
And focus on only our differences?!

When the macro sphere has been reduced
Lost is the vision of the universe
Where we exist for less time than the snap of the fingers
And matter no more than any other dust.

Our vision has narrowed
And our true gift left unseen,
As we are held in the palm of existence
And bestowed with the dignity of life.

This is our identity
Life from the giver of life!

Can we accept the greatest of gift?
Do we recognize its preciousness!
To be granted this opportunity
This is what equates to self worth
Beyond any measure of wealth.

With this said,
Each man is equal
Being granted his time and opportunity
Of this here lifetime.

Allowing this to resonate,
Dignity then emanates from within
For oneself and every other living companion,
No matter the outward differences.

Dare You Deny

Black man kills.
Thug!
Brown man kills.
Terrorist!
White man kills.
Mentally ill!
What inequalities!
Outrageous righteousness!
Blatant unconsciousness!
Common denominator
Innocent
Deaths!
Beneath the differences
All are flesh and blood
Requiring acknowledgement, acceptance
Striving for peace and love.
These are our commonalities.
Dare you deny!
Yet presidency given
To fear, greed and anger.
Dare you deny!
Deny this noise your attention
Dare to be a just voice
And claim the you
That enables unity yet choice.

Tiny grains of sand

image

Tiny grains of sand
Compress and surface
As a string of pearls

Singular droplets of moisture
Merge and form
The great oceans

Flimsy wisps of cloud
Float and rise
As the comforting sky

Each and every breath
Shallow or deep
Opportunities encompassing existence

Such grandeur!
Pearls, oceans, the sky
Even existence.

All nothing without
The minutiae
Grains, droplets, wisps
And every little breath.

What is it that we see?
What is it that we acknowledge?
The whole?
Or it’s parts?

What are we?
Mankind
Nations
Communities
Or individuals?

How kindly we are made!
How kindly we are acknowledged!

Each with a face
Never duplicated
Each with a beat
Rhythm unique
Each allowed
Opportunity unparalleled!

Have you seen
The part you are?
Own your chance
Claim your gift
Live your turn
No strings attached
This is your time!

Perfectly Imperfect

image

Born from the vision of perfection
Bestowed assets for growth
Granted divinely devised protectors

With little awareness
Of the inner perfected treasure
The search for purpose begins

Through play
Learning and toil
The misleading snowballs

Acquisitions and merges
For relations, materials and knowledge
Take precedence over simple truths

Further and further
‘Til the connection so weak
‘Knowing’ is replaced with mere ‘belief’

Yet is not the pain of imperfection
That drives to satiate the thirst for perfection
That which leads back to perfection?

With the roll and rumble
The discontent and stumbles
The empty shell seeks a refuge

In the silence and once alone
With the most real of sounds
The One true friend comes to light

So long as there’s motion
The stir to find, and most of all
The open heart

The magnetic connection of the perfect and imperfect
Draw together, seeking each other
As after all, that was

The intended perfect play!

Sweet then Bitter

blog contrast

“The world is your oyster!”
Dreams conjured
Plans made
Postcards collected
Then back to one’s home.
All sweet then bitter!

Hormones rage
Partners sought
Love verses lust
Longing verses loneliness.
All sweet then bitter!

Babies birthed
Milestones achieved
Proud parent smiles
Then empty nested
All sweet then bitter!

Through all the times
Day granted after day
Opportunities new and fresh
All sweet on sweet!!

Good times, bad times
Endurance mustered
Light conquering darkness
Hate surpassed by kindness
All sweet on sweet!!

Whatever the journey
Memories are made
Relations are forged
And legacies remain.
All sweet on sweet!!

And all the while
A timeless piece
Awaits its turn
To be uncovered.

Have you found your ‘sweet’?
Unwrap yourself a little
All sorted soft centers
Await your discover,
Making the transient painless
And the essence of meaning constant
For here lies the sweetest of sweet!!!

Paradise

paradise

Have you ever seen
The vivid streaks
Of orange, red and yellow,
The blinding brightness
Yet mesmerizing vision
Of the sunset?

Have you felt
The crisp tingle,
Wet and refreshing
Frothing and cleansing,
Chilling yet beckoning
Lapping waves of the sea?

Have you heard
The coo and chirp,
Sharp yet tuned
Cheerful and chatty
Playful and sassy,
Chanter of the tropics?

So much color
So much tune
So much texture
Wow what a wonderful world!

Yet there is another paradise
One where colors have no name
And illumination is of warmth.
The rivers run of nectar
And hunger isn’t possible.
Where harmony is felt
And every breath is a song…

Look past the cover of your skin
Beyond the actions of your limbs
Though the expectations of your mind
And therein lies a land
Of milk and honey..

What is this you ask…

This is your existence
Your every day
Your very moment.

Go in search
But not too far,
All it takes
Is the want to know
The zest to find
The perspective to see,
And low and behold
You’ve found your way!
